Warren Miller recently showcased his new movie "Children of Winter" at Abravenel Hall. Skiers, snowboarders, and mountain bums alike flocked to see the producer's 59th film and were pleasantly satisfied. The feature length film took viewers to anywhere and everywhere there was powder and included a section on our own Wasatch Range. The film also paid tribute to the late Billy Poole, a Utah native who died while shooting the film.
Warren Miller began recording his surfing and skiing antics in the late 40's, after he was discharged from the navy. Friends enjoyed the film, and he enjoyed making it, so he began to invest both time and money into the projects. In 1949/50, Miller had his first premier. He traveled the world, filming and debuting his movies, and soon he realized that "the most important people in the world were those who have stood in lines at the box office and shared the wonderful rush of skiing’s freedom with me." Miller is now 81 and in addition to producing his famous ski movies, he encourages young people to become successful and skillful entrepreneurs through his Freedom Foundation.
