Night Fall by Nelson DeMille

In my book Night Fall by Nelson DeMIlle I'm currently up to page 180. So far what's happened since page 128 is that the main character ATTF agent John Corey has started to gather loose information about the TWA 800 flight. He's been trying along with his wife, special agent Kate Mayfield, to track down former people that know things about the case. Down at 26 Federal Plaza, the police office where Corey works he calls he friend Dick Kearns to meet with him and talk over the case since he used to work on it. Remember Corey isn't supposed to get involved with this case as CIA agent Liam Griffith told him specifically and Corey's trying to fly under the radar. He gets a name from Kearns about a lady named Marie Gubiostki who used to work on the job, but Corey doesn't know where to find her. He calls his old FBI friend Dom Fanietelli to track down Marie. Fanietelli tracks down Marie to a house on Staten Island where she's now a mother and a wife. Corey talks the ferry to go over and talk to Maire about any information she knows about the crash and people who saw it. Corey also finds out that there was a couple on the beach right in front of the Long Island Sound where the plane crashed. Kate gives Corey information on how a blanket, food and a lens cap were found at the scene. They think that this couple had a video camera that might have footage of the plane crash on it and now they trying to track them down and get deeper and deeper into this case, but this was five years ago and the hope of that video still being in existence is very slim...

Significant Quote: " 'If you want it to be. It all comes down to finding this couple. if they were found, and if it turned out that it was a dead end-that they didn't see or tape anything-then that's the end of it' " (DeMille 159).
I felt like this was an important quote because it shows how after all the information and people Corey has talked to this couple and this tape and video camera that they have is the biggest lead. The person that says this is Gubiostki as she's talking to Corey when he goes to visit her at her house on Staten island. I agree greatly with her statement where this couple is the only lead and the only doorway to breaking this case wide open and proving and un-proving certain theories. It just shows how slim of a lead Corey has on this case as he tries to find justice for the families of flight TWA 800. I agree mostly with the last part of the quote as if this lead on this couple and video tape turns out to be gone then the case closes right back up and all hope of finding out what really caused the crash of flight TWA 800 all goes down the drain.
