25 Billion

Discussion
Mar 3, 2012

We all saw it coming but never thought we would be alive for the day that Apple would reach over 25 billion application downloads. Since January 2011, there have been over 15 billion downloads. It seems that angry birds and ninja fruit are more popular then we thought.

It was stated that Apple would give a 10,000 App store gift card to the person who downloaded the 25 billionth app. Someone must be really happy considering you could buy even more apps with that reward. But it is no surprise that Apple has been able to reach this goal considering how many iPhones and iPads the company has sold. Not to mention how tempting it is to be sitting in class and wanting to pull out your iPhone to beat your last high score on temple run. These products have become addicting. Once you have downloaded one application, you begin to crave more and more until you have more applications on your phone than you do contacts. This is probably why we as a society are becoming less sociable at the dinner table and more involved in names for our new high score.

There is no doubt that Apple is a very successful company. We have seen it evolved before us after we first purchased the original iPhone only to realize the iPhone 4S just came out with Siri. It is not a complete surprise that we have reached this goal of 25 billion downloads because it has become a common trend for Americans to want the latest product and the best applications out there.

Apple Addiction

Sarah,

I, as you know, am obsessed with Apple and all its products even if I don't own them. But I agree with you when you say, "...Americans to want the latest product and the best applications out there." I for one am always sad when I get a new device and a few months later a new model comes out. But I do think that my hunger for apps isn't that strong. I don't really use many apps except for social media and the occasional addicting game. Every week there is a new app that is "the it thing" and "the must have" and I think that this is inevitable when you see the number of apps that are being created everyday and the number of people that are buying Apple products everyday.

As someone who doesn't boast more than about 15 apps on my iPhone, I can still say that we are in an app frenzy and I wonder if the fever will ever die.

Look forward to reading more.
